The 5 Key Steps Of Spiritual Self-Care

Connecting with your inner self is an essential aspect of self-care.

Although usually overlooked and deemed less important than the mental or physical aspect of self-care, spiritual self-care is just as crucial for a happy and balanced life.

Spirituality doesn’t necessarily mean religion (although it does for many people) – it’s first and foremost about connecting with your inner self and nurturing it to live a more fulfilling and authentic life.

The 5 key steps in this post are designed to help you come back to yourself and turn your attention within to connect and explore your inner self.

So let’s take a look at these 5 habits to add to your spiritual self-care routine.

The 5 Key Steps Of Spiritual Self-Care

1. Mindfulness

A direct way to connect with your inner self is by practicing mindfulness. Mindfulness helps you come back to yourself and bring your attention to what’s going on within you.

There are two sorts of mindfulness: the first one where you focus on being engaged with what you’re doing, and the second one where you’re focused on what’s going on within you. To connect with your inner self, it might be best to practice the latter to begin with. To shush the outside and bring attention to the inside.

Just breathe and focus your attention within, then pay attention and listen. If you’re busy and don’t have much free time, you can do this just for 5/10 minutes, and still feel connected and present with yourself.

2. Self-exploration through art and creativity

Creativity and art are some of the best ways to explore your inner self. Whenever you create something, you connect with your inner self to do it.

Art can be a direct outlet for your inner self to shine through, and help you explore and discover what’s going on within (your innermost thoughts, emotions, ideas, reflections, etc…) and embrace it.

Using art as a way to connect with your inner self is particularly effective when you focus on intuitive creation – either intuitive drawing, painting, sculpting, or any other medium that inspires you.

The key is to have fun when creating, be playful and don’t think too much when you do it.

3. Meditation and yoga

Meditation and yoga are always good and effective habits to include in your self-care practice, especially for the spiritual aspect of it.

Both activities are easy to practice, accessible, and excellent to silence the outside world so that you can slow down and turn your awareness within to connect with your inner self.

Aiming for a 20/ 30-minute session is nice, but if you have less free time on your hands, that’s okay. Shorter sessions of 5/10 minutes are beneficial as well.

4. Spend time in nature

Spending time in nature is always a nice and gentle way to achieve inner connection easily.

Spending time in nature is a magic trick for inner well-being. Walking in nature is different from walking in the city. There’s something about being in nature that has a direct effect on yourself. It helps you slow down and reach that meditative state where connecting with your inner self becomes so much easier, as if nature makes you more receptive and the inner self more accessible.

So if you’re looking for an easy way to find inner connection, why not go for a walk in nature?

5. Have a purpose that nourishes your soul

A purpose that nourishes your soul is the secret to a meaningful and fulfilling life.

Often, when people feel empty and lost in life, it’s because they’re too focused on the outer world and lack an inner purpose. They search for meaning in outer means when they should try turning within first.

What is a purpose?

A purpose is something that nourishes your soul and makes life more meaningful.

A Purpose is often what differentiates a shallow existence from a meaningful one.

You may possess everything in life (the money, the perfect job, the connections, the relationships, etc… ) but if you don’t have something deeper, you might feel just as empty and devoid of meaning as anyone else.

Purpose is vital for authentic fulfillment. It fills your life with something meaningful, something of value. While money brings comfort and everyday ease (and it’s not a bad thing, far from it – everyone deserves to live a comfortable life), purpose brings you meaning, and a reason to live.

Your purpose answers the question: What is the point?

And the answer is something only you can figure out for yourself.
